Torredembarra
Torredembarra is ideally situated on the Costa Dorada in the region of Catalonia, close to the capital of the province Tarragona and the airport at Reus.
The vibrant town perfectly combines modern facilities and bustling commerce with cultural and historical elements from its Romanic past.
Torredembarra is also popular with water sports enthusiasts and is renowned as one of the kite surfing spots in the world.
About town
Torredembarra has so much to offer holidaymakers: great beach, modern harbour, cultural attractions, heaps of bars and restaurants, and leisure pursuits for the whole family. There is also excellent shopping in Torredembarra, and a vibrant market, where you can pick up local produce, as well as local artisan goods.
The old town has a distinctly medieval feel, although its roots date back to the Romans, as does most of the province of Tarragona. Charming cobbled streets, a castle, churches and an old tower, which dates back to the 12th or 13th century, set quite a nostalgic scene. Torredembarra also has a rich maritime heritage.
Places to visit
The wonderful city of Tarragona is just 20 kilometres from Comarruga, with its magnificent Roman architecture. All along the coastline there are beautiful coastal villages to visit. The Port Aventura Theme Park is just 30 minutes drive and provides an excellent day out for the whole family.
Beaches
Torredembarra is one of the few places in Catalonia to still possess a natural beach. The El Muntanyans beach has semi-shifting dunes and salt water lagoons. There are other beaches, which are more populated with tourists, but which offer excellent water sports facilities; kite surfing is very popular here.
The Costa Dorada, or golden coast, is known for its beautiful long stretches of clean, golden sand and warm waters.
Eating Out
Torredembarra offers an excellent selection of bars and restaurants, both in town and around the marina. The local cuisine is definitely seafood biased; visitors can enjoy delicious fresh fish, shellfish and typical Mediterranean gastronomy. There is also a good selection of international restaurants in town, although we highly recommend that visitors savour the wonderful local dishes of the region.
Vibrant bars with relaxed terraces line the streets, promenade and marina; offering a wonderful environment to enjoy a drink before dinner on the balmy summer evenings.
Climate
Torredembarra enjoys pleasantly mild winters with some rainfall. From April to October the temperatures range from 20 degrees to over 30-35 degrees during July and August.
